TADs

Toothborne anchorage is one of the greatest limitations of modern orthodontic treatment because teeth move in response to forces.”– Thomas D. Creekmore

Wait! Don’t we want teeth to move in response to forces?

At the orthodontic office of Dr. Caggiano, we are committed to providing state-of-the-art technology and techniques. Temporary anchorage devices (TADs) are an example of the technology we can use that can reduce your time in braces and provide a better result.

These small, temporary anchorage devices are used for more precise movement, eliminating any unwanted movements. When moving teeth with braces, we often push or pull against other teeth. In certain situations, this may cause unwanted movements. In these cases, we can use a TAD to supply anchorage, instead of other teeth, eliminating any side effects of pushing or pulling on teeth we don’t want to move. Research has shown that the TAD will not move during orthodontic force application, and will provide the necessary anchorage for the movement of teeth.

Orthodontic treatment with TADs begins with the placement of braces just like any other orthodontic case. After choosing the placement site, the TAD is placed with only a topical anesthetic jelly - this is a needle/injection free office! Watch an orthodontist place a TAD on himself on YouTube here:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSoq3GSrqDI

What does this mean for you?

It means faster, more precise results, less time in braces and a reduced need for annoying headgear and other appliances! Teeth movement occurs efficiently using the TAD provided. At the end of treatment, the TAD can be easily removed.

This latest technology is another example of Dr. Caggiano’s commitment to your care and comfort. For more information, visit:
